Shawn Riley currently works for the Austin Medical Center – Mayo Health System as the Director of Information Technology / CTO. Shawn has worked within the Mayo Clinic enterprise since 2004. While at AMC, he has been overseen numerous e-health components, initiatives and implementations of project like Electronic Medical Records, Patient Centered Medical Home, and several development technologies. Shawn also holds several “Original Invention Disclosures” with Mayo Clinic.
Shawn’s previous job was for IBM. He has worked in the IT field since 1994. He has addressed international audiences (MECA, Dunnedin, New Zealand: NZMSA, Queenstown NZ, etc.) regarding Health Information Technology and is currently a Certified Information Security Systems Professional (CISSP).
Shawn currently blogs about Health Information Technology on http://healthtechnica.com. He is on Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and several other social media centers. He hosts a TV show on KSMQ – PBS (Public Broadcasting Station) called “Health Connections” where he interview experts on all aspects of Health Care. He was ranked #9 (#2 in Health Care, behind Harvard’s John Halamka) in the USA in February for CIO and IT leaders in Social Media by Horizon Watching. He is ranked #2 most influential in Health Care on Twitter by WeFollow.com
The purpose of this blog is to spread knowledge about Health Information Technology. I hope to increase the knowledge base of patients, clinicians, medical support staff, and IT professionals. This site does contain advertisements and sponsors. Even so, I do not endorse products or services. I will review items and point out positive and negative attributes as appropriate. I DO NOT accept money or goods or services from organizations that would create a conflict of interest in my Mayo Clinic duties.
As an employee within the Mayo Clinic Enterprise I pledge to follow the “Sharing Mayo Clinic Guidelines” for employees. The detailed guidelines are listed here:
1. I pledge to follow all Mayo Clinic internal policies. I intend to abide by all policies concerning government affairs, mutual respect, political activity, Computer, E-mail & Internet Use, the Mayo Clinic Integrity Program, photography and video, release of patient information to media and patient confidentiality. With this is mind, I will not blog about internal Mayo Clinic related activities. I believe this will ensure confidentiality. I may blog about Mayo Clinic information that is public in nature.
2. All views expressed on this blog are mine and mine alone. Any and all opinions are personal and do not reflect any official opinions of anyone but me. Opinions do not represent my employer or affiliates of my employer.
3. I attempt to be as accurate in my communications as possible.

6. I do not use Mayo resources to work on my blog. I post all items to this blog after hours. Posts DO GET PUBLISHED during work hours. I purposely push my blog entries via WordPress timed publishing. This feature is built in to the WordPress blogging system I use to manage HealthTechnica.com.
7. Exceptions to these rules are approved by my employer as necessary (posting direct information that is public in nature, etc).
