The following was released by Mayo Clinic this week.

Today, we are announcing the results of a new Mayo Clinic economic impact study, which was conducted by the Battelle Technology Partnership Practice, an independent nonprofit research and development organization. We have done site-based studies before, but this is the first enterprise-wide look at our impact. We wanted to give you a first look at the findings.
The study confirms that our impact is substantial. Here are a few of the key findings:
• Mayo Clinic employs more than 57,000 employees across the enterprise, and directly and indirectly is responsible for 144,000 jobs nationwide.
• Mayo makes an annual $22 billion economic impact on our economy.
• Every dollar spent by Mayo on operations, supplies and staff generates an additional $2.05 for the overall economy.
• Mayo generates more than $1 billion in state and local tax revenue.
• Mayo invested $391 million of its own funds into research and education activities in 2008.
We will use information from this study to share our story with decision makers at the national, state and local levels so they truly understand the impact of Mayo Clinic when making decisions impacting our future. We are sharing this information with numerous audiences, both internally and externally, beginning later this morning.
