Some of my personal opinions and observations on Day 2 at HIMSS09 in Chicago
- Dennis Quaid opened: Nice talk, I understand his interest in clinical care. I still wonder if a physician or IT leader would have made a better choice.
- Vendors everywhere! Everyone was open and ready to talk and discuss. There was a much better vendor turnout than people seemed to complain about pre-conference.
- OnBase has free beer. Enough said.
- Katey at the Phillips booth was very helpful with perinatal systems. They compete head to head with GE and both have excellent products. Katey was very helpful in walking through the clinical work flows and what the impact would be for both nurses and physicians.
- Mary from MediQuant had a very solid discussion about how we could use her tools to migrate off of our legacy billing systems without losing historical data. @jchristenson was critical in making this a successful conversation as he knows tons more about billing than I do.
- Dan from TeleHealth walked us through the new “TIGR” system. Very sharp system for educating patients that are within the inpatient setting. Completely on demand education and can be customized to diagnosis codes so that the patient gets precisely the ed that they need!
- Microsoft was busy as hell. Hope to try to get close to them again tomorrow.
- Others I am looking forward to seeing tomorrow: EPIC, Google, Meditech, BridgeWave, and others….
- Cesar was very helpful at the HIMSS Tech Lab today. I appreciated the blogging meeting and panelists. Also many Tweeps there. It was nice to get to meet so many in person.
- After vendors was dinner. Food was good, drinks were cheap, but there was a total lack of tables. Please more tables next time.
- I missed the Olympic Committee this morning. Did anyone see them? They were at HIMSS to see the awesome facilities.
I am not endorsing any products here. Simply letting people know of the very helpful vendors we found today. I am sure there are many others. We should see more tomorrow.
Please comment on your experiences as well!
