I hear physicians and clinicians complaining endlessly about how they want to make decisions and not be lead around by the Information Technology folks. Well, the health care industry had better collectively start discussing standards, because the very large IT companies IBM and Google are collaborating on information standards to feed Biomedical devices from Personal Health Records.
This may seem like a very “IT” function anyway, but the reality is that Dell, Google, IBM, Cisco, Microsoft, and many other large IT shops are all moving head long into health. They know we have sub-par software, that our infrastructure is due for an upgrade, and we are screaming for improvements all across the inpatient and outpatient practice.
Clinicians UNITE! If you want to guide this process up front, we need to collect a powerful group that can directly represent to the national IT industry.
