10 years ago this type of technology was simply a dream in a researchers lab. Today digital imaging has moved away from the classic film based x-ray and moved into a whole new world of manipulation and diagnosis.
The 3D imaging systems include Angiograms, CTs, MRIs, ultra-sounds, and now external face extrapolation. Face extrapolation is an absolutely necessary technology to make the new face transplants a reality. The United States recently saw its first successful face transplant at the Cleveland Clinic. This follows ~4 successful transplants in France and around the world. None of these transplants would have been possible without the ability of 3D modeling to help determine the clinical processes in rebuilding a human face.
