    1. Clinical processes are some of the most complex processes in the world today. They may seem extremely daunting and even impossible to streamline. However, a savvy IT professional can save the organization a huge amount of money with only minimal effort. Process improvement has been fully ingrained in most industries for years. In health care though, it is still very new and is relatively unknown. Systems like LEAN are often seen as “something people do with cars” and “not practical” in the health care environment. Physician and nurse teams often are very independent and don’t often see the inefficiencies in their practices. You have a huge opportunity to save your organization dollars by going right after those inefficiencies. Start with value stream mapping and move forward with complete process maps. Evaluate the redundancies and start eliminating them. You can leverage your application deployment teams in these situations. Use them to help you discover processes that eliminate waste and save steps. If you combine a well tuned process mapping system with IT professionals that understand how to streamline clinical processes, you stand to make huge savings.
