The Minnesota Department of Health’s implementation of the 1994 Health Care
Administrative Simpli?cation Act will allow them to standardize the billing cycle though
out Minnesota. Beginning at veri?cation and ending in remittance this process has the
potential of make some huge gains in the medical revenue system. Let?s take a look:
Knowing the history and understanding the gap analysis (where we are now, and where
we want to be) Costs in healthcare are always going up. When it comes to medical
billing things are no different. I?m sure your jaw will drop when you see the amount of
money it takes just for eligibility/claims follow-up calls.
Minnesota has set target areas and de?ned a timeline for implementation. With three
target dates set of January 15th, July 15th, and December 15th of 2009, this will mean
your IT and Business Of?ce will be scrambling to put people at the front lines to tackle
this mega project.
Make sure you have the companion guides and best practice documentation. Even if
this doesn’t affect you and your facility, there has been a lot of leg work done to help you
make major gains for your department.
Are there any ?nes you ask for not complying? So far what it sounds like it could be
$100 for each violation not to exceed $25,000 a calendar year. Once something ?rm is
made public. I will make an update.
